That didn't look too appealing. I saw in one of the searches a description of how to use Boolean logic in Spotlight. Well, well, well. I think I will try that to exclude trash. Voila, that work like a champ. So if you want to search for "something" and want to exclude "something" that is in the trash, try this, "something(-trash)". It seems to work for me.
